Instructors

The instructors at Fig Garden Yoga Studio have either received a minimum of 200 hours yoga teacher training through a formal program and are registered with Yoga Alliance, a national accreditation board that sets minimum standards for yoga teachers, or they were trained or certified by independent schools in their areas of specialization.


Nancy Tan

Nancy is an E-RYT500-hour Yoga Alliance registered teacher and a licensed psychotherapist. She is trained in a variety of mind-body disciplines, including Integrative Yoga Therapy, Ayurveda, Tai Chi Easy, Energy Healing, and Gestalt Therapy. Nancy founded the studio in 1998 and currently oversees the studio’s programming. Nancy specializes in teaching older students, beginning students, students with special needs, and she periodically offers therapeutic workshops. In her private practice, Nancy specializes in working with clients suffering from stress-related conditions. She is the author of QUIET MIND, HEALTHY BODY: The Art of Low Stress Living, available at the studio and on Amazon.com. She also produced the relaxation CD, YOGA NIDRA: Therapeutic Deep Relaxation, available at the studio.


Audrey Tan

Audrey is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher and a Yoga Alliance registered teacher at the E-RYT500-hour level. She is a graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco. During her training, she apprenticed with Elise Miller, a certified senior Iyengar teacher and back care specialist, and Audrey is now a certified Yoga for Scoliosis teacher. Audrey has studied in India with the Iyengar family and, true to the teachings of Iyengar Yoga, Audrey emphasizes safe alignment of the body and excels in modifying poses to make them accessible to all levels of students. Currently Audrey manages the studio and teaches general open classes, Back Care classes, semi-private therapeutic classes for people who need specialized attention, and private classes for students wanting to utilize yoga to improve athletic performance, scoliosis, and a variety of other conditions. Lynn Quinn

Lynn is registered (RYT 200) through Yoga Alliance
and is trained in yoga instruction through the Fig Garden Yoga Studio Teacher Training program. She is a conscientious teacher, paying careful attention to proper sequencing and to student safety. Besides teaching yoga, Lynn has been a registered nurse for over 30 years and is currently a board certified nurse health coach in private practice (www.newpathtowellness.com). She carries her skills from her many years of patient education and her passion for empowering others into her yoga teaching.



Valerie Ehrlich

Valerie is a Yoga Alliance registered teacher (E-RYT 200/RYT 500). She is a graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco. As a long-time teacher at College of the Sequoias, she understands the exhilaration of learning. She holds master's degrees in English, Liberal Arts, and Kinesiology, and wrote the yoga textbook, "Upside Down: A User's Guide to Beginning Yoga." She's worked with teams and individuals, the young and ageless, in public and private settings, and continues to learn from and appreciates the insights and recognitions in the body and spirit that the discipline of yoga brings.


Melody Sowdon

Melody is registered through Yoga Alliance (RYT 200) and a graduate of the Integrative Yoga Therapy Training Program. She has trained in a wide variety of special focus programs such as Yoga Nidra, Pre/PostNatal Yoga, Chakra Yoga, Yoga for Back Care and Yoga for Healthy Aging. Melody also spends a considerable amount of her free time studying yoga with a focus on health and healing so that she can help herself and those around her to actualize their wellness goals.
